Frequently Asked Questions

Also known as GLP-1 receptor agonists, this is a class of medication used for type 2 diabetes and weight loss. GLP-1 stands for glucagon-like peptide-1, which is a hormone that stimulates insulin secretion in response to meals, suppresses glucagon secretion (which reduces glucose production by the liver), slows stomach emptying, and promotes satiety (feeling of fullness).

Compounded medications are pharmaceutical products that are specially prepared by pharmacists to meet the unique needs of individual patients. When medications are not commercially available in the exact form or dosage required by a specific patient, they can be custom-made at a compounding pharmacy based on a prescription from a healthcare provider.

It’s important to note that while compounded medications can provide valuable solutions for patients, they should be obtained from reputable sources that adhere to strict quality control and safety standards.  As a physician-led medical practice, we ensure that all of our medications meet these high standards.

The medications we prescribe contain the same molecular main ingredient found in Ozempic and Mounjaro. Though the ingredients are chemically identical, we do not make claims or direct comparisons between the compounded version and commercially-produced pharmaceuticals.

You only pay for the medicines that have been delivered to you. Medications are delivered once a week and there is no commitment beyond that. You may cancel at any time by contacting us at support@shatsgastro.com at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled delivery.

As a physician-led medical practice, we take extra steps to ensure that all of our medications are genuine and meet high standards for quality and safety.

This depends on a number of factors like your diet, how much you exercise and how the medication affects you.  In general, patients can expect to lose around 15% of their body weight.

Your weekly injection is delivered to the address you specify once a week in a package containing a pre-filled, ready to use syringe.

Your first dose will be delivered with easy to follow instructions on how to take the medicine. It is very simple and painless. We are always available to answer questions, but your delivery person is unable to inject it for you.

Yes, you can travel with the medication stored safely in the provided container.  Just let us know in advance and we will provide you with enough medicine to last you throughout your trip.

For long term storage, these medications are kept refrigerated to maintain their potency. The syringe you receive, however, can be kept out of the fridge.  For example, semaglutide can be left out for up to 8 weeks (just keep it from freezing and below 85°F).

By far, the most common side effects are gastrointestinal. These include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation. To help, in your first delivery we will include a prescription for anti-nausea medicine should you need it.

Less common side effects include pancreatitis, gallbladder and kidney problems and elevated heart rate. Even more rare are thyroid tumors.

If for some reason it’s determined that you don’t qualify for treatment, your fee will be refunded in full.

These treatments are not covered by insurance.

While there is no special diet, the most important thing is to maintain an adequate intake of protein in order to preserve lean muscle mass.  For most people, this means having at least 20 grams of protein with each meal.
